Hello!

I'm an experienced pastel artist based in Hampshire, UK and I specialise in creating realistic portraits of your pets and wildlife. I've always been an animal lover, having grown up with rabbits, guinea pigs and dogs, and understand how meaningful such artwork can be, especially if the portrait is a memorial piece.

I value the communication with my clients and enjoy learning the details of your pet so that I can produce the best, and most representative, portrait possible

My family’s first dog and the one who made us fall in love with the sighthound breed.

Oh I loved drawing this handsome boy!

And so perfectly named, he lives in Australia 🇦🇺🦘

Sighthounds have a special place in my heart, so I was thrilled when Roo’s owner had seen my drawing of Lolly and wanted a portrait as a birthday gift for her partner.

There’s so much love in Roo’s eyes and pastels really help to create that soft, loving expression!

I drew this beauty a few years ago now but she was the first sighthound I drew after starting my business. I love the sighthound breed, so it’s a special portrait!

When I was studying at Loughborough University, I volunteered at my local Greyhound Rescue and created a fundraiser, with the winner receiving a pastel portrait drawn by myself.

This is Izzy, the winner, who was previously rescued from the centre, so it felt like a full circle moment!

I volunteered here for about 10 months and loved every minute, I loved being out with the hounds as I was missing mine at home 🤍

Entering the new year with a throwback of the handsome Ronnie!

I met Ronnie and his owner whilst walking my family’s dog - his owner wanted a portrait as a Christmas present for her husband but wasn’t too sure about getting a good reference photo (and without her husband seeing!). So, I offered to take some reference photos with my camera and after a little photoshoot in our local field, we had quite a few lovely photos of Ronnie that she could choose from!

A perfect snoot!

I love creating textures and there’s so much detail to capture in a dog’s nose. When you use pastels, you typically work from dark to light colours/shades so after this medium grey, there’s a few more layers to go - lighter greys, white and maybe a black to bring in some more depth!

Does anyone know the breed that this snoot belongs to??

Bringing Lolly’s portrait to life!

The reference photo of @lollythewhippet was so beautiful and it gave me a great opportunity to get the small details drawn in - from her glistening eyes to the numerous whiskers. I lost count of how many different shades of brown and orange I used to create her brindle coat (but I can tell you that it took a little while to put the pencils back!)

I’m finally sharing the finished portrait of Nelson!

I say it all the time, but this is one of my favourites! The reference photo for this portrait was so beautiful and I knew that the sunset and grassy foreground would add so much to Nelson’s portrait.

I love the way Nelson’s sun-kissed coat shines!

Honey and Bonnie…my beautiful family dogs

This double portrait is so special as it’s a memorial piece of my family’s late whippets for my mother.

Honey was our first rescue dog and made us fall in love with sighthounds. She passed away at 12.5 years old after a stroke and a few months later, as the house was a little too quiet, we adopted Bonnie who was just 16 weeks old (it was also two weeks before we went into the first Covid lockdown in 2020). We sadly lost her at just two years old due to an unfortunate accident and my heart still aches for her. One day I’ll create portraits of these girls to hang in my own home.

One of my favourite pastel drawings I’ve created…my own family’s pet whippets, Honey and Bonnie!

I used four references photos for this drawing - one for each dog and collar as they weren’t in our family at the same time, nor were they wearing these collars. This piece took a little while to complete as I was working on it inbetween commissions but I’m so happy with the result.

Throwback to my first pastel portrait!

I started my business doing coloured pencil portraits but quickly found that drawing with coloured pencils were too hard on my wrist (unfortunately pain from an old injury likes to come back every now and then!). After a bit of research, I came across another artist who had a similar issue and she said how pastel pencils were easier to work with. So, I bought a set of @fabercastelluk Pitt Pastels and haven’t looked back!

I have found pastels a joy to work with - being able to create more vibrant portraits and softer textures has been very advantageous over coloured pencils. And of course, I’ve added to my pastel collection!

Thank you to Penny’s owner for trusting me with my little experiment, I’m so glad it paid off!

My style is all about capturing every little detail to bring out your pet’s unique personality. Keeping my pastel tips sharp allows me to create individual strands of fur, making each portrait as lifelike as possible.

A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of drawing Beryl, a beautiful fox red Labrador. Even then, my dedication to detail was the same - I focused on her gentle expression through her puppy eyes, expressive eyebrows and soft ears to truly bring her to life.
